Celestina Featured in T-Pain's "Freeze" Music Video

Celestina who was featured back in 2007 is the lead female dancer in T-Pain's "Freeze" video with Chris Brown. (To keep you up to speed, Celestina's a Nigerian-American inspiring dancer best known for her roles in Prince's "Black Sweat" and Usher's "Yeah" videos.) The dance heavy video ("Freeze") was directed by Syndrome. Celestina brought out her signature Matrix-like dance move (see photo collage below) for the video treatment. I do not co-sign on T-Pain's outfit! (LOL!) I do co-sign on Celestina's drive to succeed in the music entertainment business - a field she told me was not embraced by Naija parents.

GHANA AND NAIJA FILMS TO SEE

The Holiday season brings out family members you haven't seen in ages hoping for a warm bed, food, and comfort. So the one thing that is entertainment for African families is the movies from the Naija and Ghana film industries.

"In the Eyes of my Husband" stars Van Vicker and Nadia Burai. Here's the summary of the movie: Princess' (she's one of my favorite Ghana actresses) husband falls madly in love with Princess' younger sister, "Jasmine" (Burai). However Jasmine fells in love with a school boy (Vicker) she constantly bumps into.

If you want to see "In The Eyes of My Husband", you'll need a bit of patience. The plot slowly progresses into the juicy drama you and I both love about African films. Princess' story line takes too long developing before we see Van Vicker and Nadia Burai's love plot. There are some funny scenes in the film like when Van Vicker meets Jasmine for the first time and gets caught by his girlfriend's close friend or when Princess caught her husband staring at Jasmine.

What I annoyed me from watching "In the Eyes of My Husband" is the fact Princess put a lot into the marriage only to watch her husband chase after her sister.

"Total Crisis" and "Lion's Den" are two other Ghana films I purchased too but I haven't had the chance to see it. "Lion's Den" stars Patience Ozokwor, Bob Manuel Udokwu, and Chioma Chukwuka. "Total Crisis" has Uche Jombo, Tony Umez, Chioma Chukwuka and Patience Ozokwor in its cast. "Total Crisis" reminds me of a lot of Genevieve Nnaji's "Sharon Stone" because the title character (Oge Okoye) tracks down her men via their huge bank accounts.

Why isn't Nadia's friend getting more roles?

Who is the girl in the pink shirt?

INTRODUCING JACKIE APPIAH

This past Labor Day weekend for me was spent catching up on Nigerian/Ghanaian films*. One highlight from watching "Princess Tyra" and "Mummy's Daughter" was upcoming actress Jackie A. Appiah.

Appiah, born on December 5th, 1983, has appeared in "President's Daughter, Beyonce", "The Return of Beyonce", "Divine Love", "Mummy's Daughter", "Princess Tyra" and "Royal Battle."

Going back to "Mummy's Daughter", Jackie's acting skills seem polished and professional against current favorite Van Vicker. Simply put, when Jackie cries on camera or when she gets slapped here and there, the audience feels sympathy for her.

Here's Jackie's take on "Mummy's Daughter": “In my current movie I’m playing twins,” she says. “One has a way of speaking royally and the other is funky. It sometimes it gets confusing when you have to speak this way or that way and all together I have 74 scenes.”

Dare I call Miss Appiah Ghana's take of Nigeria's Genevieve Nnaji? Well Jackie HAS won an prestigious award straight out of Nigeria recently.

On winning the Nigerian movie award: “I feel very privileged that I got the (Nigerian) award and it’s given me courage that Ghanaian movies will go far,” she says. But she concedes that she still has a long way to go. “I’m still learning, I need to watch more movies to improve upon my acting, read more books…go to acting school and learn some new techniques.”

Unfortunately for her male fans, Jackie A. Appiah is a married woman. She now goes by Mrs. Jackie Agyemang. The young talented actress has a son named Damian.
