GHANA AND NAIJA FILMS TO SEE

The Holiday season brings out family members you haven't seen in ages hoping for a warm bed, food, and comfort. So the one thing that is entertainment for African families is the movies from the Naija and Ghana film industries.

"In the Eyes of my Husband" stars Van Vicker and Nadia Burai. Here's the summary of the movie: Princess' (she's one of my favorite Ghana actresses) husband falls madly in love with Princess' younger sister, "Jasmine" (Burai). However Jasmine fells in love with a school boy (Vicker) she constantly bumps into.

Thanks to YouTube, here are two short clips taken from "In the Eyes of My Husband":

If you want to see "In The Eyes of My Husband", you'll need a bit of patience. The plot slowly progresses into the juicy drama you and I both love about African films. Princess' story line takes too long developing before we see Van Vicker and Nadia Burai's love plot. There are some funny scenes in the film like when Van Vicker meets Jasmine for the first time and gets caught by his girlfriend's close friend or when Princess caught her husband staring at Jasmine.

What I annoyed me from watching "In the Eyes of My Husband" is the fact Princess put a lot into the marriage only to watch her husband chase after her sister.

"Total Crisis" and "Lion's Den" are two other Ghana films I purchased too but I haven't had the chance to see it. "Lion's Den" stars Patience Ozokwor, Bob Manuel Udokwu, and Chioma Chukwuka. "Total Crisis" has Uche Jombo, Tony Umez, Chioma Chukwuka and Patience Ozokwor in its cast. "Total Crisis" reminds me of a lot of Genevieve Nnaji's "Sharon Stone" because the title character (Oge Okoye) tracks down her men via their huge bank accounts.

Here's the two questions that "In the Eyes of My Husband" left me with:

Why isn't Nadia's friend getting more roles?

Who is the girl in the pink shirt?

ENJOY SOME SOUKOUSS

The other day on BET J program, "Soul of Africa", I stumbled across two Soukouss videos by Magic System and Princess Sophie. Do keep in mind that these videos are OLD but at the same token, it's something new to me.

Princess Sophie is from Cameroon whereas Magic System is from Cote d'Ivoire. Magic System I might add are the group behind the monster hit, "Premiere Gaou" (see above).

"Delphine ya Ogandi" by Princess Sophie.

"On ne sait jamais" by Leslie featuring Magic System

Here's the original just in case you haven't seen or heard about the song in question about:

This addictive dance has been done by Beyonce Knowles, Natalie Portman, Rihanna, Lil' Wayne, and Chilli so far this year. So one can argue this dance is the dance craze of 2007?!

PSQUARE'S DO ME VIDEO

NaijaGal recently added the world premiere of PSquare's "Do Me" video to her blog. The video quality is not clear but at least the audio is fantastic.

When I came across their music, I said to myself it's about time Nigerians emulate the style made by Bobby Brown, Usher, Ginuwine, Boyz II Men, and MJ. Read up on who the Naija singing twosome are via my earlier posts here.

Be sure to keep your browser lock on PSquare's official myspace (http://www.myspace.com/psquareofficialmyspace) for additional information on the R&B group.

SITE TO VISIT: KAISSA.COM

KAISSA.COM is Feels Good 2 B Home's Site to Visit. According to the Cameroonian singer's official myspace page, her music is described as a blend of Afro-beat and reggae. Kaissa credits notable African acts like King Sunny Ade and Fela Anikulapo Kuti as well as soulful singers Whitney Houston, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone as her musical influences.

Her 2004 debut record, "Looking There" was released on Sony Music South Africa. Kaissa's music has allowed her to travel the world...in fact she'll perform in Paris on December 6th at Casino De Paris. For the time being, Kaissa is based in New York City. (Here's a little FYI: Kaissa was here in the City this past Friday-November 30th to be exact but I couldn't make it to her gig unfortunately.)

Check out Kaissa performing her song, "Mumi" in the Big Apple not too long ago:

CANDIDS FROM SOUTH AFRICA TO NYC

Supermodel Naomi Campbell, rapper/actor Ludacris and singer Corrine Bailey Rae came out to support Nelson Mandela's 46664 World AIDS Day concert via a press conference in South Africa yesterday. Featuring notable South African and American artists such as Ludacris, Peter Gabriel, Razorlight, Annie Lennox, Corinne Bailey Rae, the actual concert will concide with World AIDS Day which is today (December 1st).

One consistency with the UK model Naomi is her love for the former South African President besides who can forget how in the past she called Nelson her "honorary grandfather"?! The concert, which happens to be fund-raising campaign named 46664 after Mandela's prison number, is for a good cause...and hopefully it'll get televised over here in the States and not just in Johannesburg.

Nelson Mandela's daughter, Maki Mandela, bought AIDS awareness to the people of China via a press conference for Miss World Pageant's 'Beauty with a Purpose' campaign. At the event, Maki pose with Miss World Pageant Director Julia Morley. Doesn't Maki look exactly like her father? It's great that she's supporting her father's charity cause...

Back in New York City, Thandie Newton attended Calvin Klein's museum opening. 'First Look' grand reopening celebration of The New Museum on the Bowery took place a day after Thandie's red carpet spot in London. Not showing a bit of jet-lagged, Thandie of course wore a piece from the designer's Fall 2007 collection.
