NAIJAS AT BEIJING 2008 PLUS ESTELLE'S PRETTY PLEASE VIDEO

Nigeria picked up bronze and silver medals at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, China...thanks to Miss Blessing Okagbare, Chika Yagazie Chukwumerije, Franca Idoko, Gloria Kemasuode, Halimat Ismaila, and Oludamola Osayomi. According to ThisDay, "The medals, both bronze, were won in the long jump and by the 4x100m women’s relay team." Quite impressive, huh?

Nigeria did not leave the events empty handed at all because we walked away with 4 Olympic medals. Here's to Victor Obinna, Peter Odemwingie, and Ebenezer Alijore for giving it their all during the final match against Argentina!

Kenya scooped up 14 medals from track and field (5 Gold; 5 Silver; 4 Bronze). Congrats to gold medalists Wilfred Bungei, Alfred Kirwa Yego, and Samuel Kamau Wanjiru!

Ethiopia was awarded with 7 medals (4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze). Congrats to Track & Field stars Kenenisa Bekele, Tsegay Kebede, Eliud Kipchoge, and Edwin Cheruiyot Soi!

Togo's Benjamin Boukpeti and his yummy biceps picked up a bronze medal at the men's K1 kayak slalom. The medal would become the only one awarded to Togo. Congrats!

Boris Kodjoe dropped by Wendy Williams' successful FOX daytime show to talk about his daughter Sophia who has Spina Bifida.

Boris and his wife Nicole Ari Parker announced plans to raise $1.88 million dollars for children with Spina Bifida. Check out this open letter Boris and Nicole wrote in support of their cause:

We hope you are well. We are writing this letter to share with you a most personal issue and ask for your help. As some of you already heard, our little Sophie was diagnosed at birth with Spina Bifida, the most common birth defect in the US, affecting the brain and/or spine in an average of eight babies a day. Degrees of severity vary from quadriplegic children with major brain damage and spinal injuries to cases of neurogenic bladders or even lesser issues.

We were blessed with a miracle child and spared of the more severe symptoms, but Sophie’s spastic bladder still forces us to catheterize her every three hours, day and night, to avoid pressure build up in her bladder and urine backflow into her kidneys. But frequent catheterization causes urinary tract infections, which are then battled with strong antibiotics, which in turn attack stomach flora and cellular balance, cause bowel issues, and that leads to more infections.

As you know I'm a HUGE romance novel reader. I couldn't put up Altonya Washington's latest novel, "Rival's Desire." Caesar and Vivian were constantly at one another's throats. It's a good end of the summer read!

disclaimer: all of my thoughts/rants are meant in good humor!
