Last night, Alek Wek had her book launch party for "ALEK: From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel Launch Party" at Socialista. Fellow Ebony cover girls Kimora Lee Simmons and the elegant Iman attended the bash:

Alek Wek on her African looks being raved by the fashion world: "I look like my sisters, and like most other Dinka girls," says the catwalk favourite, who is one of nine children. "We were all dark, tall, and lithe. I had the added problem of psoriasis: the few times I took a look at myself in the mirror, I wasn't pleased."

She and her seven-year old walked their family dog near their NYC neighborhood.
Alek Wek with her own WEK1933 handbag on top of the Empire State Building for the launch of NYC Fashion Week. Wek was asked to switch on the lights of the historical landmark to officially kick off Fashion Week.
Alek has come a long way since her days in Sudan and London. [She was raised in London after escaping from Sudan.] In the following clip, she explains to commentator Tavis Smiley her humble beginnings in her native Eastern African country:
